Actor Kang Ji Hwan Arrested For Sexual Assault

Kang Ji Hwan has been arrested on charges of sexual assault. Police apprehended the actor at his home in Gwangju on July 9 at 10:50 p.m. KST.

According to reports, Kang Ji Hwan returned home with two female employees from his agency (hereafter referred to as “A” and “B”) to have more drinks following a company dinner. Later that night, he went into the room where the two women were sleeping and committed sexual assault on “A” and indecent assault on “B.”

Earlier that night at 9:41 p.m., “A” had texted a friend in Seoul and said, “I had some drinks at actor Kang Ji Hwan’s house, and now we’re trapped,” and asked her friend to report it. When the police arrived at Kang Ji Hwan’s home, “A” said that she had been sleeping when Kang Ji Hwan sexually assaulted her, leading to the actor’s arrest.

At the police station, Kang Ji Hwan said, “I remember having drinks, but I don’t remember anything after that. When I opened my eyes, I was in the room where [‘A’] was sleeping.” After a round of questioning, Kang Ji Hwan, still intoxicated, was put in holding. Police will be questioning Kang Ji Hwan again later today.

A source from the police said, “We have yet to fully investigate the matter, so other than that Kang Ji Hwan has been arrested for sexual assault, we cannot reveal anything.”

Kang Ji Hwan is currently starring in the TV Chosun drama “Joseon Survival.”

Following Kang Ji Hwan’s arrest on charges of sexual assault, TV Chosun’s “Joseon Survival,” in which the actor is starring, has been put in a very difficult position.

The drama, which premiered June 8, has only aired 10 episodes so far, with 6 episodes remaining.

A source from the drama said, “Filming for the drama is not complete. For now, we will have to wait to see what happens.”

Kang Ji Hwan’s agency likewise said, “Regarding the charges of sexual assault, once we are able to confirm what happened, we will be releasing a statement.”

Naturally he claims he was drunk during the sexual assaults so he won’t face any legal consequences.

I don't think he's "claiming" he was drunk...they said he was still drunk at the police station. I don't think that changes a damn thing though. He assaulted them and it looks pretty clear cut. It shouldn't matter if he remembers or not.

But I have no faith in that justice system. I hope those girls are left alone to heal.

His excuse is such bullshit.

Korea and their drinking culture is disgusting and so harmful. “I was drunk” basically excuse all manners of sins and criminal acts in their society it seems.

Seriously. At this rate men in korea should just be banned from drinking alcohol around women if that seems to be the source of them not being able to control themselves around women. Every single case posted on here uses that excuse
modestgoddess79 10th-Jul-2019 04:47 pm (UTC)
the arsonist who burned down 2 major Korean historical structures used the same excuse, he got away with it the first time which is why he did it again

Wow i thought at least cultural relics would bring people together and make them realize being drunk isn’t a valid excuse but i guess not. Still i wonder if the arsonist was a woman would she be able to use that excuse...
