Mexican authorities make arrest in killing of Samuel's father

Authorities in Mexico said Monday night a man has been arrested in the killing of Bakersfield businessman, Jose Arredondo.

In a release, Mexican police said they arrested a 50-year-old man from Hidalgo, Mexico. Authorities only identified the man as “Roberto N.”

Officials from Baja California released a photo of the suspect.

The man is charged with homicide in Mexico.

Due to legal reasons, Mexican authorities are not allowed to release the suspects last name, but family members say they’re well aware of who this man is.

“That particular person was a friend of his for 20 years,” said Laura Arredondo, Jose’s sister.

According to police and the family, he wasn’t the only one involved.

“They have one of them, but it wasn’t just one [person involved], it was more,” said Laura Arredondo. “But at least they have one of them and I know that person is going to talk.”

In a news release, police state Roberto, in the company of others, arrived at Jose Arredondo’s condo in Cabo San Lucas on Monday, July 15 and beat him to death.

“He was not a fighter, he would see someone argue and he would walk away,” said Laura Arredondo. “He was not a fighter and for someone to do that to him, it doesn’t have a name.”

Jose Arredondo was found dead the following day.

“It’s been incredibly hard for my whole family,” said Laura Arredondo.

Last week Arredondo’s family held funeral services for their loved one. Monday, on what would’ve been his 61st birthday, family and friends celebrated his life.

Mourners offered prayers and memories during the service at New Life Church in Southwest Bakersfield.

His son, Samuel Arredondo also offered some words.

“He really reached out and helped the community,” said Samuel Arredondo, Jose’s son. “I really hope one day I can be the man he was.”

Jose Arredondo leaves behind his wife Laura, daughter Marielena and son Samuel Arredondo.
