A 59-year-old agency CEO, referred to as “Kim,” has been found guilty of sexually harassing an artist under his agency.
On August 21, the Seoul Central District Court gave Kim a 10-month prison sentence suspended for two years of probation and 40 hours of sexual violence treatment courses. This means that if Kim commits an offense during the two-year probation period, he will serve a prison sentence of 10 months.
In June 2017, a member of a female band known as “A” filed a complaint against Kim. “A” argued that while having a conversation with Kim about the band’s activities, Kim sexually harassed “A” by hugging her tightly and trying to touch her body.
According to news outlet TV Daily, “A” decided that she can no longer work with Kim after the incident and expressed her wishes to leave the band. Afterwards, Kim allegedly admitted his fault and apologized to “A.” However, Kim suddenly changed his attitude, leading “A” to submit a lawsuit against him. During trial, Kim continued to plead not guilty.
The court explained, “The defendant sexually harassed the victim despite his duties as the manager of the victim’s group to protect and manage the victim. As a result, the victim suffered severe mental pain. In spite of everything, the defendant continues to not acknowledge his fault by providing unreasonable excuses.”
