(TW) SM release statement following Sulli's passing and more news

SM Entertainment has now released a statement regarding the passing of Sulli. The statement is as follows:

This is SM Entertainment.
We apologize for conveying such sad and unfortunate news.
Sulli has left our side.
We cannot believe the situation now and we are just filled with grief.
For her family who is grieving after the sudden news of her passing, we earnestly request that you refrain from writing speculative articles or spreading rumors. We express our deep condolences.

In addition, it has now been reported that the police found a handwritten note at Sulli’s home. The police described it as not a suicide note or a diary entry but rather a note that expressed her feelings, and they stated they will not be confirming its contents. (More details: JoongAng Ilbo reports that an undated memo has been found in Sulli's home. There was a notepad with her thoughts written it, like a diary. The memo in question was on the last page, assumed to be a note from the deceased. Its content cannot be confirmed. According to Yonhap, police believe it to be a suicide, but they will leave all possibilities open for investigation.)

After Sulli’s sudden passing, many events and activities have been canceled or postponed.

Amber has tweeted to share that she will be putting all her upcoming activities on hold for the time being.

Super Junior released a new album on October 14. The planned V Live broadcast at 10 p.m. KST that day for their comeback will now not be taking place.

Taeyeon's content release for her comeback has also been postponed.

SuperM had planned to pre-record for their special show “SuperM: The Beginning” on October 14 in Seoul at the SBS Public Hall. The recording has now been canceled.

BTOB’s Hyunsik, who made a solo debut on October 14, has canceled a V Live broadcast scheduled for October 15.
N.Flying is releasing a new mini album on October 15, and they have now canceled their press showcase that was scheduled for that afternoon.

Actress Kim Yoo Jung was scheduled to take part in a photo call event with LANEIGE on October 15. AmorePacific has now stated that the photo call event has been canceled.

The appearance of NU’EST members Aron and Baekho on “Jam Live” has been postponed from today until October 18 at 12:30 p.m. KST due to the news.

SF9’s Youngbin canceled a planned V Live broadcast this evening.

Videos, blog episodes, and more that were scheduled to be released today for many artists have been postponed in light of Sulli’s passing. The artists include Kang Daniel, IZ*ONE, WJSN, AB6IX, SEVENTEEN, Monsta X and more.

you lost 2 of your artists bcs of depression in the span of 2 years.

its clear a lot of your artists are struggling with mental health, please do something about it bcs clearly there must be something wrong with your company
goshipgurl 14th-Oct-2019 02:37 pm (UTC)
This so much.
The Milk Club of SM artists was an open secret among old kpop fans.
We lost Jonghyun due to depression and the pressure of being an idol. Now we (most likely) lost Sulli because of this as well.

I hope SM gets a ton of shit for not properly taking care of their artists. They always talk about (mental) health being their priority yet they force their artists to go through unreal schedules (take the exo members in super m for example). They put them on unhealthy diets. They don't care when their artists get harassed by stalkers or online commenter. They only care about money.
Fuck them. I hope the public and fans finally turn their back on them.

i was such a huge kpop stan, but jonghyun's suicide killed my interest. i said from the jump it will absolutely happen again, because his death changed NOTHING; companies were back on their bullshit like a week later. the kpop industry is a toxic cancer full of abuse, and if these suicides along with the burning YG scandal don't make that clear, nothing will. stans just want to keep having fun and oppa oppa oppa'ing, and defend themselves by saying "well other industries are like that too!!" like that sweeps it under the rug. yeah, that's true, but it doesn't excuse the fact that anyone in denial isn't only fueling this abuse, but is directly complicit. if watching your faves suffer while supplying their companies with money/views is cool with you, you're complicit. the companies doing this don't give a single fuck about stans on the internet writing angry letters about better treatment for their acts; you're still watching and you're still buying. you're complicit. as long as your support props up profitable abuse, you're complicit. you don't have to stop loving your faves, but wake up and stop denying what's going on to make yourself feel better. it's just not worth it.

not replying to any comments. just mull over the ethical consequences of your hobbies and whether or not you're comfortable with that.

*edit: a word

Yeah i agree that fans should be doing more to protest the bad treatment of idols like boycotting but a lot of them trust the companies and k-pop’s marketing of a company being a family works. Also they worry that their fave will be put in the basement or won’t rank well on the charts but fail to look at the bigger picture

I still cant process this. Ive watched her and f(x) from the day they debuted and to wake up to this news today i just i cant. Im just so so incredibly mad at how she had to deal with these fucking comments (90% of those comments were sexual harassment while the other 10% was calling her crazy).

I hope all her loved ones are with people right now, I came across this video on twitter and just felt overwhelmed again :(

this shouldnt have happened

This happened to Gain too, it seems to be common to make up rumors like this for women. It was because of this that Gain had a mental breakdown on social media and had to take a break afterwards. It's sad to know it has not changed and people still do this.

So heartbreaking
lilykt7 14th-Oct-2019 03:38 pm (UTC)
Maybe I’m just lashing out in anger. But I’m just so so angry at Choiza in light of this.

He took advantage of a teen girl, possibly grooming her. Then got off fucking scott free. He should have been tried and found guilty by society for being a predator.

Sulli was forced to grow up way too fast and her reputation never really recovered.

This just makes me so upset at the sadness she just have felt in her final hours. I never participated in her witch hunts but now I regret not speaking out. I’m hoping I can be better a person moving forward and actually SAY something when I see commenters shitting on celebrities because they feel stronger under the guise on anonymity.

goshipgurl 14th-Oct-2019 03:55 pm (UTC)
Society doesn't care when a man goes after a much younger woman. If she's over 18 they say "she's legal she can do whatever she wants" and if she's underage they just say "oh she's so mature for her age/age is just a number/me and my bf are 40 years apart and we are happy!!"
They'll never learn.
binderwritings 14th-Oct-2019 03:45 pm (UTC)
I hope her friends and family have good people around them. Taeyeon's been open about her struggles so I hope she has a professional she can talk to and Hara as well. This is hitting me harder than I expected, I'm still in so much denial.
strangerstheme 14th-Oct-2019 03:52 pm (UTC)
I just read the news... this is heartbreaking, I don't even know what to say...
she always got so much hate for anything she did, it's so fucking unfair
laranal 14th-Oct-2019 03:57 pm (UTC)
omfg I just came on here because I had some down time at work and... was not expecting this
I am in shock and devastated I just cannot
I also have depression and this is really triggering. my heart breaks for her, she deserved so much better.
I worry so much for Taeyon I hope she has good support around her
azoarka 14th-Oct-2019 04:18 pm (UTC)
I'm so so so worried for Taeyeon. She's already been open about being in treatment for depression and taking medication (after some asshole was making fun of/scolding her for having "manic depression"). It's not a secret she's been struggling for a while even before Jonghyun's passing which hit her HARD and now Sulli, who she was close to and roomed with before. I'm glad they seem to be postponing her comeback (the wording is a bit ambiguous) but I really really hope people are keeping an eye on her especially.

Rest well, Sulli. This is so awful.

Slightly going offtrack but I'm cringing seeing sites like NB and Koreaboo reporting her death when they were... y'know, kind of part of the problem :/
gathyou 14th-Oct-2019 04:25 pm (UTC)
Koreaboo has posted so many articles, they're milking it. It's disgusting
scionofawhisper 14th-Oct-2019 04:23 pm (UTC)
RIP Sulli.

Jonghyun and Sulli, two idols who took on social issues and did their own thing. RIP.

This is hitting me so hard, her poor family and friends. I hope they all get the support they need right now
