SuperM makes history and debuts at No. 1!

From the article:

SuperM debuts at No.1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with their first mini album with 168,000 equivalent album units sold in the US in the week ending October 10th. The set, which was released via SM/Capitol Records on Oct. 4, launches with 168,000 (164,000 actual) equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 10, according to Nielsen Music.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units are comprised of traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Oct. 19-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard's websites on Oct. 15.

SuperM’s The 1st Mini Album starts with 168,000 units, and of that sum, 164,000 were in album sales. The rest of the album’s first-week comprised less than 1,000 TEA units, and a little over 3,000 SEA units. The latter sum equates to 4.9 million on-demand audio streams during the tracking week for the seven tracks on the album. (The album has seven tracks in total, but only five distinct songs. The additional two tracks are instrumental versions of songs on the album.)

SuperM’s handsome start was encouraged mightily by an array of permutations in which to purchase the album, which was likely very appealing to the group’s fans, since K-pop fans are often passionate about buying collectible physical packages of an album. The 1st Mini Album had more than 60 merchandise/album bundles available to purchase through their official web stores, a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer with their upcoming arena tour and eight different CD variants of the album (seven with a different cover for each member, along with a group edition). The act also staged a week-long pop-up shop in Los Angeles during street week, where fans could buy the CD (as well as oodles of individual merch items).

At No. 2 on the new Billboard 200, Summer Walker’s debut studio effort, Over It, launches with 134,000 equivalent album units earned — the biggest week for an R&B album by a female artist in over three years. The last R&B album by a woman to notch a bigger week was Beyoncé with Lemonade, which tallied 202,000 units in its third week on the list (May 28, 2016; at No. 2) after previously bowing at No. 1.

Over It’s starting sum of 134,000 units was largely powered by streaming activity, as the set garnered 14,000 album sales, 1,000 TEA units and 119,000 SEA units. The latter figure translates to a big 154.7 million on-demand audio streams for the album’s songs — marking the largest streaming week ever for an R&B album by a woman in terms of on-demand audio streams (surpassing the debut week of Beyoncé’s Lemonade, with 115.2 million). It also scores the second-largest streaming week for an R&B album among all acts (trailing only the debut week of The Weeknd’s Starboy, with 175.2 million).

A quintet of former No. 1s are next on Billboard 200, as Post Malone’s Hollywood’s Bleeding slips 2-3 (108,000 units; down 13%), DaBaby’s Kirk falls 1-4 in its second week (75,000 units; down 49%), Taylor Swift’s Lover is steady at No. 5 (51,000 units; down 11%), Chris Brown’s Indigo bolts 13-6 (39,000 units; up 24% after the album was reissued with bonus tracks) and Billie Eilish’s When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? is a non-mover at No. 7 (38,000 units; down 4%).

Kevin Gates’ I’m Him falls 4-8 in its second week, tallying just over 36,000 equivalent album units (down 52%). Brantley Gilbert earns his fourth top 10 effort, as Fire & Brimstone debuts at No. 9 with 36,000 equivalent album units earned. Of that sum, 28,000 were in album sales. He previously visited the top 10 with The Devil Don’t Sleep (No. 2 in 2017), Just As I Am (No. 2, 2014) and Halfway to Heaven (No. 4, 2011).

Rounding out the new top 10 is Young Thug’s So Much Fun, at No. 10. The former No. 1 dips 8-10 in its eighth week on the list, with 35,000 units (down 10%).

I'm happy for them. Jopping has unfortunately grown on me and I've made an impulse buy of a Kai signed poster, a Baekhyun AR tee, and a baekhyun picture vinyl during their flash sale which I won't see till January so I've done my part .

I head some exo-l's where throwing fits, and Baek & Kai were getting backlash. Are Shawols and Netzens also?
baekpedaling 16th-Oct-2019 03:58 am (UTC)
Exols really been wilding. I saw that some Netzens were shitting on Mark but idk if that had anything to do with SuperM exactly

Congrats lads!!

IDEC I love Joppin', and the whole mini, just waiting on my stuff to shipped atm. I'm personally responsible for 5 of those sales thanks to splurging on a couple of tshirts, Ten's physical CD and his signed pic haha.

So glad I didn't get to see any of the bollocks anti's were throwing around on this, I'm in need of good news and happy thoughts rn so I've just been muting and blocking, it's worked wonders :P

*pats 7 albums* I helped ^^

I'm super proud of them and am loving every minute of their interactions with each other. PS listen to "I Can't Stand The Rain" because that's a cool fucking song okay.
goshipgurl 16th-Oct-2019 04:44 pm (UTC)
i don't wanna be rude or anything but why the hell would you buy 7 copies of the same album.... i don't get it
uledy 16th-Oct-2019 02:55 am (UTC)
Please don't tell anyone, but I blasted Super Car today as I sped around the city. And, um yes, my car is black and also went vroom.
ginger_star 16th-Oct-2019 03:00 am (UTC)
Nice! That track has become a surprise favorite of mine ngl. VROOOOM!
neongoldtooth 16th-Oct-2019 03:29 am (UTC)
i mean....thats awesome. it isn't a great album, it's a good album. honestly three out of seven of them (i know nothing about the nct team) have made better albums and songs so it's a little disappointing that this is was they're leading with but ok.

the3rdjester 16th-Oct-2019 04:10 am (UTC)

I'm so happy for them! ♥
I wonder how many of their so-called fans that trended that hate hashtag and were overall disgusting towards them because they felt betrayed are now rejoicing/etc because the boys achieved something so great.
torontok 16th-Oct-2019 04:14 am (UTC)
I just hope that the controversy brewing around this doesn't reach the boys directly. If I'm being honest, I wish SM and Capitol hadn't tried to aim for number one especially when Summer Walker had an explosive release the same week because now her fans are rightfully calling out the disparity in their streams and bundles vs their chart placement. They probably would have managed a top 20 debut regardless, I think it was really shortsighted on their part
baekpedaling 16th-Oct-2019 04:46 am (UTC)
I wish they hadn't kept pushing for it. If it happened naturally it happened. Now we have people hating on the boys when they're just the pawns.
timetobegin 16th-Oct-2019 04:18 am (UTC)
Well, this is a change of tune in the comments lmao

SM must be really pleased with themselves
mishiro_san 16th-Oct-2019 04:26 am (UTC)
Congrats for them. I contributed by getting 5 albums (3 physical, 2 digital cuz of the signed posters). I wonder what the strategy will be for their next release considering the talks regarding bundles. It's funny how it turned out since I noticed a lot of the fans were not paying really close attention to the charts. They were just having fun which is refreshing since fans focus so much on charts in kpop.
katheli 16th-Oct-2019 05:33 am (UTC)
no hate to the boys, they worked hard buttttt SM ain't shit for how they went about this. If this controversy falls back on BTS who actually have good sales I'll be pissed. They don't deserve to be lumped in with SM's shady tactics.
pwrpuffgrl 16th-Oct-2019 02:18 pm (UTC)
IA but I think BTS it at a point where this won't matter to ARMYs everywhere. They sell out venues, they break records, they've been to the Grammys, they're the biggest band on the planet.

What's next for them before enlistment is to make a good, genuine, "this is BTS" album. Not some EP with songs that were made for western charts tbh.
ashdevilrun23 16th-Oct-2019 05:38 am (UTC)
Good for them! The album is growing on me

It’s been funny seeing army’s get soooo upset on twitter about superm. This just made most of them lose it even more lmao
