Hello all! I hope you're having a great Friyay, where ever you are! The first snow came here this week. It still looks nice before it gets slushy and dirty.

My week was nice but busy. Spent some time with my nephew. I've not been very popular with him because I'm not fun, I don't really play well with toys and I hate loud video games/kid TV/movies, and I'm just awkward when it comes to kid stuff in general, but I've been around since he was born, even if scarcely, so he's familiar and safe with me, and now that he's started school I've helped him with homework and we've also played some "pedagogic" games with reading and maths (lol) and it seems like my coolness status is rising, so I'm quite proud :D

Also had another three job interviews this week, including one third round interview with the management of the organization where I had to make a presentation, submit two extensive written assignments, take aptitude tests and have a long interview with the leadership. It went well and I will take it really personal if I don't get an offer because I've put in so much time and honesty for this now GRRRRRR (should've lied more lmao?). The other two, I booked on the same day because I'm sick and tired of dressing up with these things, carrying important documents, waiting around, being nervous etc. Might as well just ruin one day rather than 3🤣🤣🤣. Interview fatigue is real, but for one I was offered a second round interview on the spot, so maybe I'm getting better? At least the opportunities don't seem to dry up, but I'm still stressed about money. Have another interview next week as well. I just want it to be over with :( I'm so glad it's weekend now and no recruiter will contact me with bad (or good) news for at least two days, and not because I'm failing, just for a bit of a break.

I hope you receive good job news soon :))))

I forgot to reply last week, I watched Bojack!! What did you think of season 6 so far??
apori 8th-Nov-2019 12:32 pm (UTC)
Thank you!

I watched it in a day. I wanted to make it last longer but couldn't. I really loved it because for me, Bojack doesn't have to be front and center for every episode, especially with where he currently is. Loved Princess Caroline's story (a bit painful for her but still so real) and Dianne's whole arc. I guess we will also see Tod's mom in the last few episodes? What did you think?
gathyou 8th-Nov-2019 12:31 pm (UTC)
It cool that you're finding more to share with your nephew :)

That's an intense job interviews o.o I've done a lot of those (both as a job seeker and as part of my job) but never asked/got asked so much. Finger crossed it went well and they'll call you with good news!!! Getting a second interview on the spot is indeed a good sign, hope it goes well <3 It's really hard not to get tired and discouraged but you're still getting opportunities and making them interested to see you a second time, I want to believe you're getting close to make it!!! Good luck, and rest well this weekend <3

He even used the f-word (fun!) with me for the first time this week 🤣, if that's not progress what is!

Yes, I'm trying to remain positive and I guess I have many reasons to since I keep getting asked. I've been number two once (for something less than ideal), but all the ones I'm currently in the running for are pretty great so I would take any of them, even if the one where I did so much is probably #1. Ive only helped recruit once myself as part of the job, and at that time, there was like 5 people who all seemed excellent to me (education, personality, experience, interview etc.), so I get that the decisions can be just a luck thing.

oh you already got snow? i like snow but i haaaaate the slush and dirt it causes, i hate how slippery it makes the roads, too :/ my dad is a bus driver and i get major anxiety when there's a lot of snow on the roads, so i hope we won't be getting too much

oh when will you hear back from the job interviews? GOOD LUCK! i really really hope you will be met with good news!
what are you going to do this weekend?
apori 8th-Nov-2019 01:37 pm (UTC)
Yeah it's actually formed a solid blanket now, no slush yet but it's coming >:( I HAAAATE how dangerous it is too, and it's so understandable you worry about your dad! My mom's had two serious accidents (where she was a pedestrian) during the winer, one was life threatening and put her in the hospital for 6 months and I don't understand how she even dares go outside in the winter but she does both that and drive herself. I'm the one super anxious when ever she does, especially at night. Hopefully you won't get much snow this year, do you usually? When I lived there, it was very little but enough to mess up the roads and train lines (we're a bit more used to it up here).

Thank you! <3 Let's hope this awful process is over soon and I will stop mentioning it here lol :(

Weekend plans are very empty. I'll try and listen to some new music that I've not caught up on, maybe try and cook some food. How about you? Hope it's a good and healthy one after your week!
aures 8th-Nov-2019 01:45 pm (UTC)
hm now with the global warming/climate change not much anymore, when i was young we would get a lot of snow, i don't really expect much this year iether

same to be honest, just nothing, listen to some music, i want to watch some variety shows and just relax a bit! have a good weekend <3 i hope you will be able to relax and enjoy it to the fullest
apori 8th-Nov-2019 01:50 pm (UTC)
Sounds like a good plan, same to you dear <3

oooh, good luck. I would be SO PISSED if I put in that much work and didn't get it. I'd be pissed at being asked to put in that much work unpaid, period.

What type of field/job is it?

It's freezing here and I loathe it, because my apartment reflects that weather. So it's just cold everywhere. I keep going to my office just because it's warm.
apori 8th-Nov-2019 08:23 pm (UTC)
For real! They need to start paying people for the time they put into the recruitment process, at least with submitting actual work and giving presentations (it was about the work not about me so it really goes far beyond "getting to know the candidate" in my humble opinion). It's not a straight up legal job but working as a policy "liaison" (for EU level) between the international law makers and the domestic bureaucrats.

Aww it sucks when it gets cold at home. Here in the tundra it's the opposite, houses are built for winter so it's always warm inside even if it sucks outside. When ever I've lived abroad this was a major struggle.

If it was just them getting free work, shame shame shame on them. But the job sounds awesome, if also probably a bit people oriented. One of the drawbacks of the U.S. is we're so far from other places, so it's a lot harder to get into int'l law than inside the E.U. We have the U.N headquarters., but it's not that easy to get hired there in the U.S.

Is it more the business/trade type of int'l law, family stuff, criminal, or like the human/war stuff?

Which of the tundras are in you? I feel like we have a lot of Scandinavians around here. It is such a trade off, cozy houses and cute hats, versus us having sunshine like 350 days a year, but houses that never seem to get above 70/20 (which is too cold to sit around in!)
apori 8th-Nov-2019 08:51 pm (UTC)
I don't think they could actually use the stuff I submitted (or I would HOPE not, both for the reasons you mentioned but also because I hope they know their stuff better than me lolol but you never know). Yeah, UN is tough without connections, but it seems like such a slow bureaucratic place idk if I would enjoy it. Great for making connections and money (if permanent job, not temp contract).

They made it sound like it could be any type of law. Since we (Norway) are not in the EU, we opt into schemes, so not all EU directives are binding here, so there's a process of choosing/recommending what to opt into and what not to which I would be apart of, and it could be anything. My background before was the human rights/war crimes stuff, but this isn't really something that's regulated from EU level here so I feel like it wouldn't come up at all. Probably economic and trade stuff, maybe Brexit related deals too.

So the Bay area (right?) is where all the Scandinavians went?? They're missing the isolated houses (and maybe the government) but that's it!! There's nothing else here, just snow, darkness (this time of year) and... no that's all.
daynr 8th-Nov-2019 09:07 pm (UTC)
oooh neat. I used to do trade side of int'l law and while the regulatory aspects are *snooooze* the economic and policy stuff can be interesting. Wonky, but interesting. I did a few classes/papers on war crimes stuff and it is fascinating, but I don't know that I have the temperament to handle it. I think I'd lose my temper too much.

hee, and I meant Scandinavians around omona, not SF. In the U.S., back in the day, Scandinavians reportedly settled around the upper Midwest, with long cold winters, lots of land and lakes, and space. The houses are warmer there ...
apori 8th-Nov-2019 09:24 pm (UTC)
What area of law are you in now? It was my """dream""" (and plan) for a bit (as in decade+) to do a PhD in American (!!!!) constitutional law, but the impracticality got in the way.

Aha, I'm still waiting for the other Norwegian omona peeps to show themselves, but yes! our lovely provider of got7 posts is of course another Nordic friend! I have family that went to "California" pre-WW1, but I have no idea where in California these Norwegians ended up. I think some of their descendants are now living in Seattle - which also seems way better climate-wise to me than this stinkhole.
