And it's up to us to find those hidden gems, that might otherwise be burried under countless songs.
Every month I'll try to look back on girl group and female soloist release (I don't have time to waste on boys) and try to find out the song that should have been "IT" but was overlooked.
What's my expertise on this?
None whatsoever.
It's just fun & games but to paraphrase the great Eugene Lee Yang
Everglow - "Player"
Objectively "DD" is that girl, but if we're being picky, "Player" would have been a great pre-release.
Just imagine how amazing a performance MV would look.
Moonbyul - "Eclipse"
"Eclipse" is it.
Nothing much to add here, sometimes label do get it right 🤷
GFriend - "Labyrinth"
"Labyrith">>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I don't even need to explain my self... Clearly they thought it was good enough to be promoted on music show so I guess I'm not wrong ;p
"Crossroad is just bland in comparison. It would make a cute anime ending though
Iz*One - "Ayayaya"
Although I understand the reasoning behind "Fiesta" I personally have a soft spot for "Ayayaya".
Still fun, but not as
"Open your eyes" also deserves an honorable mention.
Dreamcatcher - "Red Sun"
Pretty much every song on the album is better than the makina bs that is "Scream".
"Tension", "Black or white", but especially "Red Sun" deserved the title track spot.
Loona - "DDD"
"So what" is just noise. There are far better song on the album but better doesn't always mean title track material. A song need to have that extra oomph to be it.
Take "Number 1", cute song, but a B-side to the core. "Oh (Yes I am)" could have been it but it's a pre-release at best.
If we're being honest "DDD" is the only true contender, and only if they were going for a cutesy concept, which clearly they're not.
Rocket Punch - "Firework"
It's girl chants seasons and Rocket Punch is right on time with "Bouncy". It's not a bad choice in term of title track, it's fun and it has that high energy factor that would most definitely catch the listener's attention. BUT!!!! "Firework" would have been my pick. I'm also partial to "Girl friend", which is a good song, but not an "it" song.
Elris - "Like I do"
I'm overall not a fan of this new mini. I find most song to be too busy, but this seems to be a trend; and maybe I'm just too old 🤷.
I would have favored "Like I do" which is just as catchy as "Jackpot" but a lot more cohesive. And just, makes sense as a song rather than a patchwork of sound.
Honorable Mention:
KARD - "Enemy"
"Enemy" is the superior song as it shines by it's lack of boys.
I love BM and J.seph, but lbr, KARD is basically Jiwoo + Somin with eye candy on the side.
Perfect recipe if you ask me.
Fun fact: Enemy was originally meant to be the title tracl
