It should have been You - March/april 2020

Sometimes execs and labels just fuck it up and pick the wrong song to promote a debut/comeback.
And it's up to us to find those hidden gems, that might otherwise be burried under countless songs.
Every month I'll try to look back on girl group and female soloist release (I don't have time to waste on boys) and try to find out the song that should have been "IT" but was overlooked.

What's my expertise on this?
None whatsoever.
It's just fun & games but to paraphrase the great Eugene Lee Yang

"I'm right, you're wrong, shut up, discuss in the comments".

I gotta say, labels didn't fuck it up too much. There's a few "meh" and some "wtf",obviously, but overall title tracks were nicely picked.
My main issue: march was freaking bleak, so thank the goddess for april.

ITZY - It'z Me
Title track: Wanna Be
But it could have been:

"Wanna Be" might be the first Itzy title track I've truly enjoyed. It's fun and it makes me want to jump around the house for BB-Beni's delight (she loves when I dance silly).
The album itself is pretty cohesive and I couldn't say one song stands out. They're kinda all title track material ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
However, "That's a no no no" has that "classic" Itzy fun but disjointed style that would make it a good follow up to "Dalla Dalla" and "Icy".

DeVita - CRÈME
Title track: Evita
But it could have been:

Honestly the whole mini is a delicious treat. DeVITA reminds me a lot of KATIE, not just because she sings in english, but because of the smooth, laid back mood her mini creates.
@labels, stop making such great intro if they're gonna be so short. Movies should be 4 minutes long.

Stella Jang - STELLA I
Title track: Villain
It could have been:

Some of the songs, especially "Bourgeois emotion" reminded me of Māya Sakamoto (talk about a throwback!).
Picking a favorite from STELLA, is like picking a favorite star in the night sky, near impossible. But if we're talking title track material, the, I gotta say "forever" really caught my attention.
It gives you the perfect gateway into her world.
In other world, stream her album on spotify

HA:TFELT - 1719
Title track: is there really just one????
It could have been:

I've said it several times march was truly dull in term of music, so you can imagine how relieved I was when Yenny released 1719 (and not just because she retweeted stuff from me - I gotta say I was quite popular this month with Stella, Yenny and even Uza).
Stella and DeVITA had helped out of my musical numbness but 1719 truly woke me up.
Out of all the gems in her album, "Life sucks" holds a special place. It's raw, powerful, sometimes a bit gruesome and sad, but also very relatable.
3mins could have been it, but Choiza is involved...

UZA - Banality of Evil
Title track: S.O.S
It could have been:

"S.O.S" has that reto/electro vibe reminiscent of Kavinsky or Justice. It'll make you want to dive back into Homework.
The Banality of evil, very much like Stella, 1719 or crème is another case of the-whole-album-is-perfect-go-support-this-artist-on-spoitfy-or-another-platform.
BUT, if I could recommend a song it would be "Faust". It's very UZAish and would give any new listener a good overview of her work.

(G)i-dle - I trust
Title track: OMG
It cold have been:

I'm not a fan of "OMG" or I trust in general, but Cube did make the right call with "OMG" if only for the undeniable sexiness of chorus.
The mini is pretty disappointing cohesive, with the exception of "Lion" which is a bit too reminiscent of their previous style and thus ends up feeling a bit out of place.
"Maybe" would be my favorite song, but sadly it's not title track material.

Apink - LOOK
Title track: Dumhdurum
It should have been:

Such a solid spring mini: it's fresh, colorful and fun, just like its title track Dumhdurum.
But, cause there's always a but, I would have picked "Everybody ready" over "DDR", as it sets the perfect spring mood.
I know I'm cheating, we did get a MV and all, but I just love the song.

April - Da Capo
Title track: LALALILALA
It should have been:

Another solid spring release.
Imo "Doll">"LALALILALA", but if we're being honest both songs are a bit too WJSN/Secret to actually fit april.

Ben - Off the record
Title track: Bad
It should have been: If I (sorry I couldn't find a working video but you can listen to it on spotify)

Ben new album is one of those ballad filled release you'd usually expect around fall or winter. It's soft and cozy, full of warmth and cozy reading session with hot cocoa.
Although "Bad" is bacically how to ballad 101, it's a bit too ostish and lacks that little something to make it special. A little something you might find in "If I".

OMG - NONSTOP
Title track: NONSTOP
It should have been:

Let's all pretend NONSTOP does not exist and focus on the superior track: "Dolphin".
Because really, why would you pick "nonstop" over "dolphin", or even "Neon"?
Hell, "Krystal" would have been better than the generic mess they chose.

GWSN - The Keys
Title track: BAZOOKA
It could have been:

"BAZOOKA" is that girl. It's fresh, fun, age appropriate... everything we love for a GG, but "After the bloom (alone)" deserves some love.

Thoughts???
I hope I didn't forget anyone
