The massive wave illusion artwork at SMTown Coex Artium goes viral + SM announces closing date

M Entertainment has announced the closure of SMTOWN Coex Artium.

On May 18, the agency made the announcement and stated, “Thank you for your interest and support for SMTOWN Coex Artium for the past six years. Business will end as follows due to the expiration of our rental agreement.” According to the notice, the SMTOWN &Cafe, theater, and VR section are currently closed, the SMTOWN Museum will be running until 8 p.m. KST on May 31, and the SMTOWN &Store will be open till 8 p.m. KST on June 28.

However, it appears as though this will not be the end as the notice ended with, “We will see you again in a new location in the near future.”

SMTOWN Coex Artium first opened in 2015 and became a tourist destination for K-pop fans, especially of SM Entertainment artists. The building featured attractions such as a café, museum, theater, and store where fans could purchase merchandise.

The closure of the SMTOWN Coex Artium has been in consideration for some time, with SM Entertainment confirming reports in July 2019 that it may be closing the business.
