Flashback Friday

It’s Friday! Today I put on some sparkly pink eyeshadow to go buy dog food because why the fuck not. Every week I search the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going to see what was on top for the 3rd week of June, 2009.

#3 Lee Seung Gi “Will You Marry Me”
I don’t remember this song at all, and the only thing I know is it was a digital single that won some year end awards. Also used in a lot of fan made shipping vids lol. Here’s a live stage at MBC Gayo featuring MC Mong, and ending on bended knee in front of actress Lee Boyoung. She was totally with (and still is) Ji Sung though, which is the way I would personally go if I had the choice lol.

#2 4Minute “Hot Issue”
This was the debut song. It was released a month after Cube announced that they were forming a new girl group with Hyuna. I like that, no long drawn out teaser period. Sometimes these teasers nowadays are dragged out for so long. I think I was just so-so with this song back then. I don’t remember a strong like or dislike. Let’s check out this “jungle” remix stage.

#1 Girls’ Generation “Genie”
Personally, my most favorite SNSD song. This was the single off of the group’s second EP of the same name, and the follow up to their big hit, “Gee”. They promoted the song for almost 2 whole months good lawd so long. I really liked the live performances for this song (mostly because those fan chants were insane omg), but this is one iconic Music Core stage that I couldn’t pass up posting.

Honorable Mentions

#7 Jewelry featuring Nassun “Rally”
I don’t remember this at all. The song was for Superstar K, which would begin airing the first season the following month. I didn’t know if this was a real MV because it looks like fanmade, but Google tells me it is legit lol. The video features the group’s performance of the song on M Countdown.

#10 Brand New Day “Mascara”
This trio debuted in January of 2009, and their last release was seven months later, in July. I couldn’t find disbandment info, but I think we can safely assume they are dunzo now. One of the members did go on to promote as a solo singer, and later became an actress. They all sound pretty good though, I wonder why it didn’t work out. And I like the lyrics. “Does she know that you’re cheating? Are you shooting a drama with me?”, and “They say bad guys are popular these days. Use that to find another girl” lol.
