Flashback Friday

Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and post the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 5th week in January, 2009.

#3 Fly To The Sky “Go Away”
This was the single from the duo’s album “Decennium”, which celebrated their 10th anniversary since their debut. With the release of this album, they announced they were not renewing their contacts and focusing on their solo careers. They would reunite and make a successful comeback in 2014.

#2 Daesung “A Big Hit”
This was Daesung's second trot song, and the fact that a 20 year old GD was writing trot songs for a teenage Daesung still is funny to me. They were successful too! There was a time when this song played every single week on Return of Superman lol. Back when Sian was still “Daebak”, remember? This song was released during his time on Family Outing, and this concert stage features a homage to his co-star, Lee Hyori, in the middle of the performance.

#1 Girls’ Generation “Gee”
Is this my favorite SNSD song? No. Do I still believe it is absolute Kpop perfection? Hell yeah I do! This was the single from their debut EP of the same name. It broke records on various charts and music shows for being at the top spot for months, along with winning tons of awards at the year end shows. MelOn would later rank it as the number one song for the decade (2000-2009). I will forever do the dance to this song.

Honorable Mentions

#8 Baek Ji Young “Give My Lips”

This was her follow up to her hit “Like Being Shot By A Bullet”, off of the same album. Totally different sound though! Going from a mid tempo ballad to something to dance to. I could not find the music video for the song, so here’s a live stage on Music Core. She looks so good!

#10 After School “Ah”
This was the group’s debut song. It’s so weird because I feel like I remember this debut so clearly, but at the same time I always forget this happened lol. Only bits and pieces. Like them being promoted as Korea’s version of Pussycat Dolls, and they were styled so similar. And I remember the choreo too! Kahi was 28 years old when she made her official debut. I miss them so much.
