Flashback Friday

Wassup party people. Today I went to Ikea and bought 6 reusable bags and 100 tealights. Did I need 6 reusable bags and 100 tealights? No, I needed storage boxes and frozen meatballs. I also forgot to get some frozen yogurt which I had a free coupon for! I lose my mind in there every damn time, I swear. Right. Every week I check the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more songs from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 3rd week in September, 2014.

#3 Sistar “I Swear”
This was the lead single from the group’s 4th mini and special summer album, “Sweet & Sour”. It was also the follow up to “Touch My Body”, released a month prior. It was a hit just like its predecessor, charting at #1 too. The song would take a win at most of the music shows, getting a trophy every day for 5 days straight. I remember the MV most from this era, and I don’t remember the live stages at all. Here’s a stage from Show Champion. Summer Sistar just feels so good.

#2 Winner “Empty”
This was one of the two songs that they would debut with. Both this song and their debut album, “2014 S/S” would chart at the top spot. I always thought that their debut was executed so well. Them and Akdong Musician too. 2014 was a solid year for debuts over at YG. I think this is still my favorite song from them. They would go on to win a bunch of rookie awards at the year end shows. It’s been awhile, so let’s check out the MV.

#1 Super Junior “Mamacita”
This was the lead single from the album of the same name. It was the group’s first Korean album since 2012. I only really remember two things from this era, the “hey mamacita ay ya ya ya ya” part, and Donghae’s blue hair. I liked that hair. Anyways! Here’s the drama version of the music video, which I never knew existed until now. It’s…something. Lol. I find the sound effects annoying. Nothing really “drama” about it, but it does expand on the MV and give you an ending.

Honorable Mentions

#5 Kara “Mamma Mia”

I was one of those people who kind of checked out after the lineup changes that happened earlier in the year. So it took a while for me to listen to the song. It was released about a month and a half after Heo Youngji officially joined the group. It’s a fun song! The "hit the lights, let's go!" part ugh so good! Not my personal fav, but it’s stayed on my Kara playlist all these years. A Japanese version of the song was also released in the following week, and they would start a two month tour in Japan in October.

#9 Jay Park “So Good”
This was the lead single from his “Evolution” album. I liked this song. It has a nice summer vibe to it. That’s all I pretty much remember from this era lol. I remember the music video, and I liked the song. It is one of the two songs from him that I like, I think. Here’s his comeback stage on M Countdown.
