Soo Ae and Yoo Ji Tae at Midnight FM Press Event

Recently, a PR event was held for the upcoming thriller Midnight FM at Lotte Cinema's Kunkook University branch. During the event, Soo Ae admitted that filming scenes in which she had to swear and use harsh language was difficult, and Yoo Ji Tae talked about his two "killer" roles.

"I was worried about filming a scene where I had to curse and speak harshly," she said at the event in Jayangdong on the 15th, "but I actually felt relieved because I could confront Han Dong Soo, who distressed me in the movie."

The smiling starlet reportedly took classes meant for radio announcers in preparation for her role in the film. "I've always wanted to become a radio DJ," she said, "and I was happy while filming because I got to have that experience, even just for a little while."

Soo Ae, who has played mostly naïve, very feminine characters in the past, stepped up to the plate to play an entirely different character in Midnight FM: a DJ by the name of Sun Young, who confronts a killer that is threatening her family.

Her co-star Yoo Ji Tae is no stranger to the villain role, having played Lee Woo Jin in the Cannes Grand Prix winner Old Boy. His character in Midnight FM, Han Dong Soo, is a frightening caller to Sun Young's broadcast. Ji Tae compared the two, stating that "the characters Lee Woo Jin in Old Boy and Han Dong Soo in Midnight FM both contradicted themselves, but the origins of their evils are totally different. Han Dong Soo was much more difficult!"

When both stars were asked what sort of program they would like to host if they were radio DJs, both agreed that they would like to introduce soundtracks. "My voice sounds like a lullaby in the daytime," Soo Ae elaborated, "so I'd love to interact with listeners in a midnight broadcast."

Midnight FM tells the story of radio DJ Sun Young (Soo Ae) on her last broadcast. While she's on the air, she recieves a phone call from an unidentified listener, named Dong Soo (Yoo Ji Tae). Dong Soo threatens Sun Young's family, promising their death if she refuses to follow his every order, and Sun Young is forced into a desperate fight to save her family.

The movie is director Kim Sang Man's second work after he directed the comedy Girl Scout, released in 2008. "I chose this film because I wanted to produce a movie in a genre filled with tension and suspense," said Kim.

Kim also spoke about his having taken on the responsibilities of art and music in film prior to settling into the director's chair: "I think I might be able to present special elements that could be differentiated in terms of music and the artistic setting."

Midnight FM will hit cinemas in Korea on October 14th.

Am I the only one excited for this film? I think it might actually be good.
