South Korea’s eastern coast has seen the strongest snowfall over the past 100 years.
A total of 110 centimeters of snow have fallen on the city of Samcheok and the rest of the Gangwon-do Province since Friday, local meteorological service says.
The last such snowfall on record was reported in 1911.
Snow drifts blocked the province’s main thoroughfares for 18 hours.
Bus and railway communication was disrupted, and hundreds of cars were stuck in the snow.
The snow caused roofs to cave in.
The authorities have asked the military to assist in the cleanup effort.
